When asked about the Hawks roster opening Coach Mike Woodson told the AJC that the staff would sit down on Monday and discuss the 13th roster spot that was left vacant due to the waiving of Othella Hunter. Woodson went on to say that former Hawk Mario West was a “possibility”.

Mario West is a 2 year veteran of the Hawks bench who was cut in training camp this season. He has since played for the Maine Red Claws of the NBA D-League where he is averaging 13 points a game and shooting 49% from the floor. His offensive game aside Mario would bring a strong wing defender and a great locker room presense back to the team.

Coming out of training camp it appeared that the Hawks wanted to keep as much size as it could. Now it seems that they are more comfortable that Randolph Morris or Jason Collins could soak up some minutes (or fouls) if needed. Collins recently was used in the 2nd quarter matching up with Shaquille O’Neal.
