There has been much talk lately about fan voting and the NBA All Star game. While I feel it will be travesty if either Tracy McGrady or Allen Iverson are voted to start I feel that it will be an even bigger travesty if either of the players actually decides to play in the game. With Iverson I could possibly see it because he is actually playing for Sixers. McGrady isn’t even with his team and if elected to start he should immediately turn it down siting the health of his knee.
The Hawks have five players on the All Star Ballot this season but none of them are going to get elected to start. However, due to the Hawks elevated standing in the Eastern Conference I think they should be well represented. Joe Johnson is an absolute lock for the game. I also think Josh Smith will be and should be chosen to play in his first all star game. Al Horford has a case as well but I am afraid he will get edged out. Hopefully though he would be a player that could be added if someone were to not be able to participate due to injury. Jamal Crawford could also get some consideration but ultimately I don’t see any chance in him making it.
On another note I hope that Jeff Teague gets chosen to play in the rookie/sophomore game. I hope that his lack of playing time doesn’t hold him back because I think he would thrive in this game. Its too bad that he hasn’t been able to garner consistent playing time because it seems he has performed adequately when he has been in the game.
