The Hawks will look to bounce back tonight against the Clippers at Phillips Arena. They need to continue their trend of playing well and winning at home, particularly against teams that they seem to be better than. The Clippers come in having beat the Bulls in their last game, already this season they have lost last years number 1 draft pick Blake Griffin to a season ending knee injury. Make no mistake about it though they do have some talent.
Chris Kamen is a legit seven footer that is averaging 20 points and 9 rebounds a game. Eric Gordon is a silky smooth guard that has played well and on any night Baron Davis is capable of looking like a perennial All Star. That said if the Hawks clamp down then this team will go away early. The Clippers allowed 46 points in the first quarter the other night in Cleveland however, if the Hawks allow them to hang around then they could be in for a long night.
While Kamen is big inside the Hawk’s Al Horford and Josh Smith should be able to take advantage in the transition game. To run however the Hawks will have to win the battle on the boards. That has to be a team effort as we need Joe Johnson and Marvin Williams crashing the defensive glass as well. They need to give more of a team effort in that regard. This Clipper’s team is not a real defensive team. The Hawks will get a number of good shots they just need to bring it defensively and not get into a shoot out.
