The Hawks could be without their entire starting back court for tomorrow night’s game against the New Jersey Nets. Joe Johnson has a sore Achilles Tendon and did not travel with the team to New Jersey. The article goes on to state that he is probably out for Thursday’s game with Toronto as well.
Mike Bibby is also questionable for the New Jersey game with a sore back which is an injury that can tend to linger around.
The question is how will the Hawks play this? If Joe is out, Coach Woodson could elect to go with either Jamal Crawford or Mo Evans. Woodson may in fact choose to keep Crawford as a sub. If Bibby is unable to play then either Crawford or rookie Jeff Teague will have to start. However, don’t forget about the Mario West option. It would surprise no one here at Soaring Down South if Mario were to make a start. At any rate Teague should see a bump in minutes played.
Inquiring minds would like to know how long these injuries have been nagging. While I haven’t noticed anything happen on the court during games they are probably a result of just a long NBA season. This will be the first game Johnson has missed the whole season and only his fourth missed game since the 07-08 season. While no opponent can be taken for granted the Hawks probably looked to this point in the season against New Jersey and a struggling Toronto team as as good time as ever to give Joe Johnson a break.
With all of the free agency talk of late it will be interesting to see how the Hawks play without Johnson in the lineup.
