In a game that had about as much intensity as an early preseason game the Atlanta Hawks came away with a 99-83 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Jeff Teague played all 48 minutes in the game and scored 24 points to go with 15 assists. No matter how meaningless the game was or who was playing it was still good to see the Hawks rookie guard go out there and have some success. The Hawks had seven players in double figures scoring led by Teague. Jason Collins even returned from a foot injury to score a season high 10 points.
Starters Joe Johnson, Mike Bibby, Josh Smith, and Al Horford all were held out of this game along with sixth man of the year candidate Jamal Crawford. Cavaliers coach Mike Brown after toying with the idea of playing LeBron James and Shaquille O’Neal ultimately decided against it and neither dressed for the game.
The victory was the Hawks 53rd of the season. A season in which the team overtook the Celtics for the third spot in the Eastern Conference. The opening round opponent for the Hawks wasn’t decided until later in the night when Miami finally over took New Jersey in an 94-86 double overtime victory. The win gives Miami the fifth seed and the Celtics in the opening round. The Hawks will begin their series with the Milwaukee Bucks this Saturday at 5:30pm at Phillips Arena.
