The Hawks will in fact be sitting down to interview Dallas Maverick assistant Dwane Casey but the first interview will go to current ESPN Analyst and former Mavericks coach Avery Johnson. Johnson is probably the highest profile candidate available and I assumed here that he would probably be too expensive for the Hawks. Still if you like to dream he would be my choice to replace Mike Woodson. Johnson has interviewed with Philadelphia and New Orleans and is expected to be interviewed by the Nets at some point.
Fact is though his last salary was nearly double what Mike Woodson made this season. I just can’t see the Hawks making that kind of commitment. There is no guarantee that Johnson will get that much money although it appears that the Nets might be the team in the best position to offer the most. Still if Johnson is really ready to return to the sideline, then a team with pieces like Al Horford and Josh Smith would be appealing. Even with that said I still feel like Casey is probably still the favorite in this equation.
