Rick Sund’s Comments

Rick Sund stated his thoughts on the Atlanta Hawks this season in Michael Cunningham’s blog at the AJC. “When we hit on all cylinders, we can really play well,” he said. “We are shooting the ball pretty good, obviously. We’ve either led the league or are second in field-goal percentage the whole season. “When we pick up our defense, that is probably one of our biggest keys. Reason For Hope

This is a follow up to my most recent entry that discussed some of the reasons for concern about this Atlanta Hawks team.  Three games after that post, the Hawks seem to be back to their winning ways.  There are a couple of reasons for this, one of which is the fact that they haven’t played any playoff caliber teams over the past three games.  With that said, there are some good signs that at least Larry Drew is learning on the job.

Reason For Concern

After a 6-0 start, the Atlanta Hawks have lost 7 of their last 9 games to fall to 8-7 on the year.  There are several reasons for the collapse, with the main reasons being ones that this site and several other sites pointed out as possible weaknesses before the season start.  Unfortunately, without a roster shake up, I don’t see the issues this team has improving. 1.  This team’s perimeter defense is piss poor, and Coach Drew continues to play the absolute worst defensive combination on this team in the backcourt for a majority of the minutes in the back [...]

Hawks Encounter First Loss of the Season

The Atlanta Hawks lack of any semblence of perimeter defense cost them their first loss of the season against the Phoenix Suns tonight.  Perimeter defense is something I have been harping on all offseason, and it is something that I will continue to harp on.  Beefing up this area was completely ignored during the offseason, with the Hawks apparently relying upon steady improvement from Jeff Teague and a healthy Marvin Williams to supply the bulk of the perimeter defense.  In tonights game though, they didn’t have Marvin Williams and Teague is still a work in progress.  The Suns are very [...]
