Despite having what most Hawks fans will call a “disappointing season” , this Hawks team can still make history. The Atlanta Hawks currently have 20 road wins this season. The franchise record for most road wins is 22. With 3 road games remaining, the Hawks still have a shot on breaking the record or at least tying it.
The Hawks three opponents on the road will be against the Indiana Pacers (tonight 4/8), Washington Wizards (tomorrow 4/9), and the Charlotte Bobcats (Wednesday 4/13). The Hawks are currently 3-0 against Indiana, 3-0 against Washington, and 2-1 against Charlotte this season. The Hawks have not lost on the road against any of the three.
Larry Drew commented about the possibility of breaking the record to AJC’s Michael Cunningham:
“I was not aware of that but I think our team has accomplished some things on the road. We’ve shown spots of showing how to play on the road and with some consistency. These last four games I don’t want to change anything. I want to do what’s been good to us: control tempo, take care of the basketball, and the shot selection has to be good. Normally when we do all three of those things, that’s been the big reasons we’ve had success on the road.”
Sadly, I’m not sure if I want the Hawks to break the record. It would be great to see the Hawks team I’ve watched all season do something no other Hawks team has done in the past, but I would hate to see the Atlanta Spirit Group use this as an excuse to not make changes during the off-season.
