Jason Collins, who injured his ankle last game vs. the San Antonio Spurs, and Josh Smith who has had knee problems in the past few weeks are out for….at least the next two games. They won’t be traveling with the Hawks in their back-to-back road trip tonight(@Indiana) and Saturday night(@Washington). No worries folks. They’ll be fine.
Jason Collins told Michael Cunningham of the AJC that the ankle will be just fine:
“I will be all right. Injuries are a part of the game. I will be OK. I have had lots of sprained ankles in my basketball career and this is another one on the list.”
Josh Smith told Michael Cunningham that he will be back by the home finale vs. the Miami Heat:
“That’s a good game to come back to.”
Luckily for the Hawks, they really don’t have much to play for. They secured the 5th spot in the East and can no longer move up or down. That being said, Coach Drew will get the chance to rest players and limit their minutes in the next upcoming games. However, Coach Drew said that he still wants to win games and gain some momentum come playoff time:
“I do think it is important not to just completely shut them down. I think our approach these last four should be to gain some momentum going into the playoffs.”
All I know is that I hope everyone will be ready and fully healthy come Game 1 of the NBA Playoffs vs. the Orlando Magic. Without the services of a Jason Collins or a Josh Smith, the Hawks chances of shocking the NBA world and beating the Magic in the first round becomes even slimmer.
