The Atlanta Hawks have signed the former LSU Tiger, Magnum Rolle to a contract via @HawksPRGuy. I’m not going to lie, I don’t know much about Magnum Rolle besides that he has a cool name and can block shots, but as far as what his full skillset, I have no idea. So I did what any normal person would do in this situation, google him and youtube him.
Came across his DraftExpress Profile, and here’s what they said about him:
Possessing an excellent wingspan and decent height, it isn’t hard to see what made Rolle such a highly regarded high school prospect after watching him for a few plays. He runs the floor like a guard, displays good lateral quickness, and is extremely quick off the floor. While those assets still serve him well, his impact on the college level and his promise from an NBA perspective are both limited by his lack of physical strength. Though Rolle has added twenty-some pounds since his freshman year at LSU, he remains extremely lanky.
First reaction, this guy is a Solomon Jones type of player.
Then I came across his NBADraft.Net Profile, and this is how they described his weaknesses:
Weaknesses: Not a physical player, he lacks the strength and mass to battle inside … Gets thrown around and has a hard time fighting for position on both ends … Not a go-to scoring threat in the post … Has struggled with inconsistent play … Must cut down on mistakes.
Seriously? Is this guy Solomon Jones?
Anyway, then I went to Youtube. Youtube videos don’t really show you the true skill of a player since they only highlight what the person is good at, but at least we get to see what he is capable of:
Initial reaction…you guessed it. From the looks of it, a Solomon Jones replica. I’m not sure if the player will contribute much since there’s already so many big men on this team, but can he possibly take on the backup-backup Power Forward spot from Josh Powell?
Anyway, can’t say too much about the signing. Probably won’t have an effect on the outcome of any games or playoff series, but hey, the Hawks now have the best named duo in the NBA…Pape Sy & Magnum Rolle. Pape Sy is still the better name in my opinion, but Magnum Rolle is pretty beastly too.
- Magnum Rolle will be wearing #25 for the Hawks since Al Horford is already wearing #15.
- Yes, Magnum Rolle is named after Magnum P.I.
- His most recent team was the Maine Red Claws of the NBA D-League.
- He was drafted by the Thunder in the 2010 NBA Draft but traded to the Pacers. Pacers waived him.
- He’s from Freeport, Bahamas.
