Jameer Nelson Confident Magic Will Beat Hawks In The First Round

A Soaring Down South Original

After yesterday’s Chicago Bulls vs. Orlando Magic game, while Derrick Rose was being interviewed by Lisa Salters of ESPN, Jameer Nelson approached Rose and told Rose, “I’ll catch you in the 2nd round”.

Here is the proof/video:

But Jameer?!!….how about your first round match-up? In case you didn’t know, the Atlanta Hawks will be the Orlando Magic’s first round matchup. Now, I may be overreacting here, but that’s bold of Jameer to be confident and think that they pretty much have a BYE in the first round against the Hawks. Especially when the Atlanta Hawks beat the Orlando Magic in the season series, 3 to 1. Yeah, the Hawks are still the clear underdogs but I would think he would at least be somewhat worried about the match-up. Being a Hawks fan, yeah, I’m not confident about winning a 7 game series against the Magic, but I’m not going to completely dismiss ideas of the Hawks winning. Who knows? Maybe the Hawks can flick the switch and turn it all around in the playoffs.

All I know is, if I were Larry Drew, I would play that video in every single practice, every single pre-game speech, and every single post-game speech, just to give the players motivation. This video may not be a big deal to some, or to any, but I think any source of motivation for the Hawks is good, no matter how big or small the concept is. This will be the first time since 2008 that the Hawks will be the underdogs in the first round, and as we all know, the Hawks can “shock the world” and play their best basketball when everyone is counting them out.

Two regular season games left (for the Hawks) until the playoffs and I’m already starting to get pumped up about the playoffs. I hope the Hawks make me happy in late April by proving Jameer Nelson wrong.
