Final Score: Washington Wizards 83 | Atlanta Hawks 101
Box Score: Yahoo! Sports
The Atlanta Hawks get another pretty impressive win and start out the season 2-0. Full Recap will be coming tomorrow. For now, let’s see which players should be considered for the game ball and which players deserve extra laps in practice.
Game Ball Consideration
Al Horford: Solid game, but nothing too spectacular. Horford was Horford. He played good defense, rebounded the ball well, and didn’t take too many shots. He finished with 11 points in 4-9 shooting and also grabbed 10 rebounds. Expect many appearances from Horford in this category.
Josh Smith: 15 points, 10 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 blocks, and 2 charges drawn. However, he still took too many jumpers for my liking.
Marvin Williams: For the second straight game, Marvin Williams’ contributions played a big part in a Hawks win. Who would have thunk it? He finished with 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds (2 offensive rebounds), but the most impressive stat is 10 free throw attempts. 10! He only made 7 of them, but no need to nitpick…Marvin was aggressive tonight, and not just for one quarter!
Winner: I’ll give the game ball to Marvin Williams, just because he really has surprised me so far this season, and it’s not everyday Marvin Williams is even considered as the Player of the Game.
Jannero Pargo: He probably doesn’t need extra laps, but he sure does need to take extra shots after practice. He took six shots, and only made one. Oh yeah, and all of the six shots were from beyond the arc. Pargo better take those extra shots or he just might lose his spot to Donald Sloan.
That’s it. Every other player not mentioned wasn’t bad enough to earn extra laps in practice, but also not good enough to be considered on getting the game ball.
