Let me start off by saying Happy New Years to you, and thank you for coming. 2012 should be a very fun year here at Soaring Down South, and we hope you join us for the ride.
I hate to say it, but wow that was an ugly game vs. the Rockets! Look like the team from last year right? Well I’m not ready to jump ship on this team just yet(I seen plenty of that on blog boards last night). Bottom line is, they didn’t come to play(see what I did there?) and got blitzed and couldn’t recover. In the NBA, that happens and happens often. Contrary to popular belief every team in the NBA is talented. Granted some more talented than others but if you let a team get their confidence going, it’s going to be a long night for your squad. A few little things that bother me more than others though.
Joe Johnson and Jeff Teague have to be more aggressive. 15 shots is never enough for Joe Johnson. He should be averaging at least 20 shots a game nothing less, bottom line. If he wants to be a primetime player(which I think he already is), he needs to put up the shots to get primetime numbers. Jeff has to be aggressive simply to keep him engaged in the game. Teague seemed, for the first time this year, just out of it. I don’t think it has anything to do with LD pointing out that he isn’t a playmaking point guard. He wasn’t a playmaking point guard at Wake Forest so I’m sure nobody in the Hawks organization is expecting him to be Chris Paul or Steve Nash. Also no LD didn’t bench him for not facilitating. Teague was not being aggressive and getting schooled by Kyle Lowry to begin the game, so please don’t start that.
Now since I did just defend LD, it’s time for a little scolding. His handling of Marvin Williams this year has been nothing short of terrible. He has been your most consistent player through three games. But the fact that Marvin only got 21 minutes, in a game he started off hotb is ridiculous. The fact the Jannero Pargo got 16 minutes is even worse. He brings nothing as a back-up seeing as though he is not hitting shots, never was a playmaker, and is average defensively. LD has to come to his senses even if that means playing Joe and T-Mac at the point for a little time until Kirk gets back.
Then there’s Josh. I’ve come to the conclusion that Josh will be Josh. You just have to hope that in the important games he makes more plays than mistakes. I know that’s not the best thing to say about one of your most important players and maybe he will turn it around (Only been 3 games) but nothing so far has made me even begin to think that he is a smarter, better player.
It’s only one lost so I won’t go crazy and say sell the team. I still like what I see. I think last years team would have laid down at the end of the game and lost by 20+ but to this teams credit they kept fighting and had plenty of chances at the end to win the game. Now that they are hit with adversity for the first time let’s see how they respond against (gulp…) Miami tonight.____________________________________________________________________________
