Atlanta Hawks Trade '12 Second Round Pick to Warriors for Cash Considerations

The Trade Deadline is over, and yes, the Hawks did make a trade!

Atlanta Journal Constitution’s very own Michael Cunningham tweeted that the Hawks sent their 2012 second round pick for cash considerations.

The Atlanta Hawks had two 2nd round picks this year (one of their own, and one from Phoenix and the Josh Childress trade), so they were able to give one away. Michael Cunningham tweeted that they will give up the lesser of the two 2nd round picks. Meaning, Hawks will keep the higher pick of the two (most likely the Phoenix one).

This was simply a “luxury tax” move. The Hawks are just a bit over the luxury tax, and since they were unable to find a deal that would get them under, they chose to just trade their 2nd round draft pick for cash to help them pay for the “bill”.

This was the only trade the Hawks made before the trade deadline. Not one to go crazy about, but it’s an understandable one.
