Rick Sund’s contract as General Manager of the Atlanta Hawks ends one week from today. He is rumored to be in discussions with the organization to return, however, his role moving forward has yet to be determined.
“All I’m going to say is [co-owner] Bruce [Levenson] and I are kicking around a few ideas and when something gets totally resolved we will let you know, Sund told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
According to the AJC, it’s believed Sund wouldn’t mind taking on another position within the organization, such as an advisory role, instead of continuing his duties as general manager.
Former Cleveland Cavaliers GM Danny Ferry has been rumored to be a candidate for Atlanta’s GM position once Sund’s contract officially expires June 30.
Its worth mentioning that the Trailblazers requested permission to interview Sund to fill the vacant GM job in Portland but were reportedly denied that option by the Hawks after Atlanta’s season ended.
For now, its business as usual for Sund and the Hawks as they continue to host rookie workouts in preparation for the NBA Draft on Thursday, June 28.
