The Atlanta Hawks are projected to select Evan Fournier with the No. 23 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft according to ESPN Insider Chad Ford’s updated mock.
Lets take a closer look at the new potential draftee:
Evan Fournier (France)
Weight: 206 pounds
Fournier is a smooth scoring wing equipped with excellent penetration skills and a nice mid-range jumper but he needs to add strength and improve his 3-point shooting range to be effective in the NBA.
Brief Bio via SI.com:
Fournier is considered the best European prospect in the draft and could be the only one selected in the first round. The Frenchman first became familiar to American fans when he took part in the 2011 Hoop Summit, an All-Star game pitting premier United States high school players against top-flight international competition of the same age. Fournier had six points, six rebounds and two assists as he made 2-of-8 shots against a team that featured fellow perimeter draft hopefuls Austin Rivers, Marquis Teague and Bradley Beal. Fournier was just 18 at the time and getting his first taste of big-time U.S. basketball. Playing in the French first division for Union Poitiers Basket this past season, he averaged 13.9 points to lead the team in scoring. He left a May 16 contest with an injured ankle and was reportedly spotted using crutches afterward. Fournier is noted for his great combination of size and ballhandling ability, making him an ideal candidate to run the pick-and-roll in the NBA. He also has strong leadership intangibles, but one of his current major drawbacks is perimeter shooting. It’s unlikely Fournier will be ready for immediate NBA success, but a team at the back of the first round which shows some patience could get a bargain down the road.
