The newly renamed Brooklyn Nets unveiled their even newer All-Star back court on Friday.
The dynamic duo of Deron Williams and Joe Johnson are now the NBA’s best back court, and more importantly — the best team in New York, atleast according to Johnson who stated “definitely, the Nets,” when asked which team in town is better.
Nets General Manager Billy King shares Johnson’s thoughts and boasts about the new superstar teammates:
“We have a Joe Johnson that can score and defend his position, you have Deron that can do the same,” King said. “There are a lot of good backcourts, but I don’t think there are backcourts that can do that. You’ve got two guys that can get you 18, 20 every night and they can defend their positions.”
Williams and Johnson were introduced at a pep rally in Brooklyn Heights, on the steps of Borough Hall, in front of hundreds of eagerly anticipating fans who filled the area to get the first look at Brooklyn’s newest superstars.
It’s been a very busy off-season thus far for Nets General Manager Billy King, who re-signed Brook Lopez (four years, $60 million) and Gerald Wallace (four years, $40 million), while also bringing in Bosnian forward Mirza Teletovic (three years, $9 million) and the menacing-looking Reggie Evans (three years, $5 million).
Williams played for the Nets last season and averaged 21 points and nine assists per game. Johnson averaged 19 points, 4 rebounds, and four assists last season with Atlanta.
