First-round draft pick John Jenkins dropped 21 points and helped the Atlanta Hawks hand the Dallas Mavericks their first loss, 67-61, so far in NBA Summer League play.
Second-round selection Mike Scott (11) was the only other Hawk to score in double-figures. He also added seven rebounds in the contest while playing 26 minutes of action.
Marquette alum Jae Crowder led the Mavericks with 20 points while Dominque Jones chipped in with 12 points. Teammate Bernard James recorded a double-double in the game with 11 points and 10 boards.
Dallas had a tough time making shots the entire game, shooting just 37 percent (26-for-70) as a team, while the Hawks managed to post a little bit of a better shot performance shooting 40 percent (21-for-52) from the field.
Atlanta led 20-13 at the end of the opening quarter, but the Mavs went on a 9-0 run late in the second period and took a one-point lead with 1:38 remaining. The Hawks responded in the final 98 seconds and went up 32-31 at the half.
Jordan Taylor provided Atlanta a spark in the third quarter by scoring seven points and helped the Hawks extend their lead to 55-44 heading into the final period. The Mavericks finally started to make buckets consistently in the fourth and shot 50 percent in the quarter to make a run at the Hawks, but it wasn’t enough as Atlanta held on for the six point victory.
