NBA Summer League: Hawks drop final game, Blazers win 84-78

The Atlanta Hawks concluded the 2012 NBA Summer League with a 84-78 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday.

Highly touted first-round draft pick Damian Lillard led all scorers with 31 points and shot 50 percent from the field for Portland in the victory over Atlanta. Will Barton (14) and Luke Babbit (10) were also in double-figures.

Hawks second-round draft pick Mike Scott shot 50 percent from the field and led his team in scoring, but only with a modest 14 points. Scott also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. First-round selection John Jenkins chipped in with 13 points on 55 percent shooting overall while Elijah Millsap rounded out the double-digit scorers for Atlanta with 11 points.

Atlanta controlled a slight advantage at the end of the first quarter 21-19, but Portland took the lead 23-21, on an Ekene Ibekwe dunk with 8:36 left in the half and never looked back. The Hawks came within one point, 51-50, in the third period, however, the Trail Blazers managed to regain their composure and went on to extended their lead to as many as 12 points in the fourth quarter before the game ended with a six-point victory.

Portland will play their final Summer League game tomorrow at 3:00 PM against the Denver Nuggets.

The Hawks unfortunately end on a bad note and finish the Summer League with a 2-3 record.
