The USA women put a global beat down on China 114-66 and will advance to the 2012 Olympic Basketball semifinals.
After leading by just three points after the opening quarter, the USA got on track and jumped out to a huge 25-point advantage by halftime. It was essentially over at that time, but the U.S. kept rolling and went on to secure a 48-point victory.
Six players scored in double-figures for the Americans, who were led by Diana Taurasi’s game-high 22 points. Taurasi shot 80 percent (8-of-10) from the field overall, sank 4-of-5 attempts from behind the arc, and added two assists in 21 minutes of action.
Angel McCoughtry had just as an impressive game as Taurasi, if not more impressive, going a perfect 8-for-8 overall in the game for 16 points, while adding six rebounds, six assists, and five steals in 21 minutes of action.
Maya Moore (12/7) and Tina Charles (12/5) combined for 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Lindsay Whalen and Candace Parker each scored 10 points apiece for the USA.
Nan Chen led China with 16 points, Xiaoyun Song added 15 points, and Zengyu Ma chipped in with 13 points.
