The men’s USA basketball team is advancing to the Olympic finals! They will face off against Spain on Sunday at 10:00 AM (ET) for the gold medal.
The Americans lit it up from 3-point range as they shot passed Argentina 109-83 on Friday, hitting 18-of-42 (42.9%) attempts from behind the arc.
Leading 47-40 at halftime, Kevin Durant knocked down two 3-pointers in an 8-0 spurt early in the third period to extend the U.S. lead to 59-46. Durant sank two more from downtown in the period to help the USA take a 74-57 advantage into the final quarter. Just to secure the victory, the U.S. went on to make nine more treys down the stretch, including four from Carmelo Anthony, to run away with the win.
Durant paced the Americans with a team-high 19 points on 50 percent shooting from both inside the arc (2-of-4), as well as outside the arc (5-of-10). He also blocked two shots and grabbed four rebounds in his 27 minutes of action.
LeBron James made 80 percent (8-of-10) of his attempts from two-point range, finishing with 18 points while also pulling down seven rebounds in the contest, and a team-high seven assists.
Melo matched James’ output with 18 points, while adding six boards and three assists in the game. Kobe Bryant scored 13 points. Chris Paul rounded out the double-digit scorers for the U.S. with 10 points, while matching LeBron’s team-high seven assists. Kevin Love narrowly missed recording a double-double in the game, finishing with nine points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Argentina was led by a trio of NBA stars who accounted for 48 of the team’s 83 total points. Manu Ginobili had 18 points, while Luis Scola and Carlos Delfino both added 15 points each.
Argentina will play Russia in the bronze medal game at 6:00 AM (ET) on Sunday, before the U.S. battles Spain in the gold medal match at 10:00 AM (ET).
