2012 Atlanta Hawks Player Preview: Zaza Pachulia

Undoubtedly one of the coolest cats in the Hawks locker room, Zaza Pachulia has won over the hearts of Atlanta fans through his reckless style and high motor. What he lacks in talent he more than makes up for in intensity, instinct and a willingness fight for every loose board.

Although Pachulia isn’t the first name that comes to mind when thinking of beasts on the offensive glass, he was however the best offensive rebounder for the Hawks last season and managed to eclipse the top 20 players league wide in terms of offensive rebounding rates.

The Hawks ranked 28th in offensive rebounding last season, which is hardly the production you want to see on the boards from a team that has now all but solidified itself as a premiere jump shooting team in the East.

Pachulia will be essential in creating second chance scoring opportunities for this team, as well as injecting energy into an entirely new Hawks secondary that will lack chemistry early on. And while this team may struggle to find its identity at times, Pachulia will be a pillar of consistency and a scrappy leader on a nightly basis. After all, in the words of Z himself:

Nothing easy.
