The Hawks take on the Kings for the first-of-two times this season, in the only matchup in Sacramento. The Kings visit Atlanta on February 22. Atlanta has won eight straight over the Kings, including the last four in Sacramento. The Kings’ last win over the Hawks was on 2/20/08 in Sacramento (119-107). The Hawks trail the all-time series, 152-150, and are 42-71 on the road against the Kings

 

LAST MEETING – March 11, 2011 at Power Balance Pavilion:                                    ATLANTA 106, SACRAMENTO 99

Josh Smith and Joe Johnson combined to score 35 second half points and finish with 28 and 21, respectively, as the Hawks defeated the Kings, 106-99, at Power Balance Pavilion. Atlanta led by as many as 12 points in the fourth quarter, but the Kings fought back to close within five, 94-89, with 3:22 remaining after a 7-0 run. Smith hit a jump hook shot with 3:02 left to push the lead back to seven, and the Hawks made eight of their next nine free throw attempts to seal the win.

DeMarcus Cousins recorded his 25th double-double of the season with a game-high-tying 28 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. John Salmons contributed 14 points off the bench. Marcus Thornton and Jimmer Fredette each scored 12 points. Six hawks scored in double-figures, including all five starters. Jeff Teague scored 16 points, Marvin Williams and Kirk Hinrich each scored 12 points. Zaza Pachulia recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

The Hawks outshot (51.2 percent – 46.3) and outrebounded (45-36) the Kings. Sacramento turned the ball over 16 times, leading to 23 points for Atlanta.

Common Threads

Larry Drew (1981-86) is a former King. Al Horford and Francisco Garcia have been teammates on the Dominican Republic national team. Kings assistant GM Shareef Abdur-Rahim is a Marietta native (Wheeler HS), and played two-and-a-half seasons with the Hawks (2001-04). Kings assistant Alex English is a former Hawks assistant coach. Jeff Teague and James Johnson were college teammates at Wake Forest. Devin Harris, Anthony Morrow and Johan Petro played with Travis Outlaw for the Nets in 2010-11. Kyle Korver and John Salmons were Philadelphia 76ers teammates from 2003-06, with Lou Williams part of that group as a rookie in 2005-06
