Devin Harris and the Hawks are looking to spoil Joe Johnson’s first game back in Philips Arena as Atlanta leads the Brooklyn Nets (Johnson’s new team) 56-40 at halftime.
Harris and back court running mate Jeff Teague lead the Hawks with 12 points each, both shooting 5-of-8 overall, while Al Horford already has a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Atlanta is running all over the Nets, outscoring them 19-4 in fast break points.
Brook Lopez leads Brooklyn with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting, while Johnson is getting stifled by the Atlanta defense and only has nine points on 3-of-7 shooting at the half.
The Hawks shipped the perennial all-star to Brooklyn in exchange for Anthony Morrow, Jordan Farmar, Jordan Williams, DeShawn Stevenson and Johan Petro along with a 2017 second-round draft pick back in July and haven’t missed a beat.
Sure, Atlanta has been putrid since the start of the new year, especially last game against Chicago, but they always seem to get back on track when they play without tenured star Josh Smith in the lineup.
Smith was suspended for tonight’s game by Hawks General Manager Danny Ferry for “conduct detrimental to the team.”
