In a statement put out by the Atlanta Hawks, Josh Smith has been suspended for tonight’s game at home against the Brooklyn Nets due to conduct detrimental to the team. According to Hawks AJC beat writer Chris Vivlamore, Smith was kicked out of practice Tuesday. Larry Drew has not specified a starting lineup for tonight’s game.
Josh Smith also put out a statement addressing the situation:
“Clearly I am competitive and was frustrated by our recent losses. I understand and respect the team’s actions and just want to get back on the court to do whatever is necessary to help my teammates. I apologize for letting them down and apologize to our fans for not being available for tonight’s game.”
This is Josh Smith’s ninth season as an Atlanta Hawk, and he is in the last leg of his contract. Surely, trade rumors will begin to swirl again in light of this development, and the Hawks must now figure what direction to take the franchise from here. Stay tuned.
