Hawks vs Magic: Game Grades

Quick Analysis:

After last nights game in Boston where I swear Josh got the starters benched, we see the Hawks come home and play the Magic who are also on a back-to-back.  This was a rather sloppy, but yet close game.  Al was out and we got to see Ivan step up in a big way with scoring and rebounding.  With Teague being off tonight Josh came back and played really well tonight after last nights abysmal performance.  Devin returned with a huge fourth quarter but the story goes to Ivan who matched his career high in pointsat 21  and also managed to get a double double with 10 rebounds.

Game Grades: Each player is given a grade on an A+ through F scale based upon their performance.

Box Score

Jeff Teague: D

Jeff had a rather forgettable night with how bad he was shooting the ball. He finished with seven points on 3-of-14 attempts and only had three assists.  I can’t give Jeff a failing grade because he was useful on defense with a few steals and had a huge blocked shot.

Devin Harris: B

It was nice to see Devin back in action. He made his presence known by scoring 13 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter. He was rather quiet at the beginning of the game, but when the game was close in the 4th, he started to turn things on and helped the Hawks get the W.

Kyle Korver: C

Kyle had an okay night. He kept his three-point streak alive, so that’s good. Korver only played 18 minutes but within that time he did manage to pull down six rebounds, two above his season average.

Josh Smith: B+

Compared to last night, Josh had an astronomical game. He had a solid effort and was actually in the paint blocking shots and grabbing rebounds. Smith finished with a team-high 21 points, to go with nine rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals.

Johan Petro: C

For Petro, this was an amazing performance. He filled-in for the injured Al Horford and had a very respectable game. In just 18 minutes of play, he had six points, seven rebounds, two assists and one block.

Shelvin Mack: B

It’s starting to amaze me that nobody picked this guy up.  Shelvin Mack can play basketball and is a very solid backup. He is a natural pass-first guard and I am starting to see that he has a decent jumper. He hit two 3-pointers and finished with eight points and two assists in 21 minutes of action.

Dahntay Jones: C-

Looking at the box score, Dahntay didn’t have that good of a night. He missed the only shot he took in the game but did grab three boards in 13 minutes.

Anthony Tolliver: C

This was another night that Tolliver soaked up a large amount of the minutes from the bench. He is still getting beat defensively, but I was happy with his effort. Tolliver finished with eight points, three rebounds and one steal in 29 minutes of game time.

Ivan Johnson: A

I said that Friday night was Ivan’s big night — scratch that because his game Saturday was HUGE. He had things going early with huge dunks and also out-hustled the opposition, coming up with crucial loose balls.  Johnson started the second half for Petro and finished the game tying his career-high with 21 points, while also grabbing 10 rebounds. I lost count of all the and-1’s he drew, but I know he sank 7-of-8 at the line. Great game all-around!
