“NO NO NO!” *waves finger*
Former Atlanta Hawks all-star Dikembe Mutombo, aka Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo, has run into some trouble. He is being sued by flight attendant Kelly Shannon, who was arrested and held in a Congolese hotel for 42 days by armed guards after a gold trade went haywire, resulting in notorious warlord Bosco Ntaganda hijacking the entire operation.
Here’s a portion of the article from TMZ.com:
According to her suit, flight attendant Kelly Shannon was part of the crew aboard the plane Mutombo chartered to fly his associates and $7 million to pick up the gold … back in February 2011.
In the docs, Shannon says their departure from the Congo was delayed for 2 days, and when the gold was finally being loaded onto the plane … armed guards showed up, arrested everyone, and held them at a hotel for the next 42 days.
Shannon claims she’s suffered severe emotional trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder — and she’s demanding unspecified damages.
Mutombo was never on the flight, but Shannon’s lawsuit accuses him of being reckless for sending her and the crew into a situation he knew would be dangerous.
And more from AJC.com:
You know who else might be traumatized by the whole thing? Mutombo and his partner in the plan, Houston energy big shot Kase Lawal. They each lost all of the gold to the Congolese government and $6.6 million in cash to the aforementioned warlord, according to a U.N. report.
Let’s hope the former great stays out of serious trouble and gets out of this scandal faster than he can star in a new GEICO commercial.
