The Atlanta Hawks matchup with their likeness in the San Antonio Spurs in their third summer league game. The Hawks won their first game in Las Vegas with a victory over the Miami Heat last night. John Jenkins again led the scoring against Miami, like he did Friday against the Clippers. He is currently tied for second most points per game scored in the Las Vegas Summer League to date with an average of 21.5 ppg.
It’s no secret that the Hawks have many ties to the San Antonio Spurs organization. The General Manager Danny Ferry recently came from their front office, the head coach Mike Budenholzer was an assistant head coach and even a current assistant coach Quin Snyder was in his most recent position the head coach of the Spur’s D-League affiliate, the Austin Toros.
Dennis Schröder has made some noise with his Rajon Rondo-like ability to make dazzling passes. Schröder is tops in assists per game in the Las Vegas Summer League with 7.5 a contest. Mike Scott came into his own last game as well with some timely buckets down the stretch to give the Hawks the victory on Sunday night. He finished with 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting.
The Spurs are led by third-year shooting guard Cory Joseph, who made appearances with the big club last season through the post-season. Joseph is among the Summer League leaders in assists per game along with Schröder. Also on the radar is former Ohio State Buckeye Deshaun Thomas, who is averaging 17 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
Tip-off is at 10:00 p.m (ET) and can be seen on NBA TV.
