We are now into the fourth day of the Las Vegas Summer League tournament, which ends with a championship game exactly a week from today. Teams have played one or two games apiece at this point, and today’s contests promise a lot of action. Atlanta currently sits tied for 7th place at 1-1.
The teams ahead of Atlanta are Cleveland (2-0), Milwaukee (2-0), The D-League Select (2-0), Chicago (1-0), Golden State (1-0) and Phoenix (1-0). How the league works is that all teams play 3 preliminary round games before being seeded in a tournament style bracket. Wins are worth 1 point, ties are worth .5 and a loss is worth 0. Seeds 1-10 will get a bye in the first round and seeds 11-22 will play in a first round game. Everything from that point on is single-elimination and all NBA rules apply.
The Hawks summer league session started off with a loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Clippers before rebounding with a solid win over the Miami Heat. John Jenkins has been the man of the team so far, averaging 21.5 points and five rebounds over two games. Rookie point guard Dennis Schroder has also looked decent in the games, racking up a combined 15 assists.
It will be interesting to see how those two fair in today’s game against the San Antonio Spurs, and whether or not the Hawks can secure a top 10 spot in the tournament with a win.
Tip-off is 10:00 p.m. (ET).
