The Blazers erased a 16-point second-half deficit, and Will Barton got a lucky floater to fall with nine seconds left in overtime to propel Portland past Atlanta 70-69 in the first round of the Las Vegas Summer League Tournament on Wednesday night.

Trailing 54-36 with 3:46 remaining in the third quarter, the Blazers managed to go on a 9-0 run in the following two minutes and 12 seconds to cut Atlanta’s lead down to seven points. The Hawks were able to increase the advantage back up to 11 early in the fourth quarter, but Portland went on an 18-7 burst to tie the game at 67 apiece with just 26 ticks left in regulation. John Jenkins got off a wide-open 3-point look from the corner for Atlanta in the final seconds but he couldn’t knock it down and the game went into overtime.

The first point of the overtime session wasn’t scored until there was just 23 seconds left to play when C.J. McCollum sank 1-of-2 foul shots to give the Blazers a 68-67 lead. Dennis Schroder tied the game, then put the Hawks on top 69-68 with 17 ticks to go when he converted a pair of free-throws of his own.

Then Barton did what he did.

He backed down his defender, who tried to get a cheap charge call but hit the floor instead, and got a lucky floater to fall after bouncing on the rim twice before going in for the game-winning bucket.

The Hawks had a chance to win the game in the final seconds but Mike Muscala’s baby hook in the lane didn’t fall and Jared Cunningham was unable to get off a clean putback shot on the offensive rebound.

McCollum led the charge for Portland with 19 points on 5-of-14 shooting. Barton filled up the stat sheet with 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Thomas Robinson was an absolute beats on the glass, grabbing 17 boards while adding 13 points, and second-year center Myers Leonard was also in the mix with 11 points and five caroms.

Mike Scott was the leading scorer for Atlanta with 19 points, and narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Schroder finished with 16 points and five assists. Jenkins struggled mightily going 5-of-17 for only 13 points, but Muscala was impressive off the bench scoring eight points and pulling down a team-high 12 rebounds.

Portland (1-3) advances to the second round of the 2013 Las Vegas Summer League Championship where they will take on Phoenix Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. (ET).

Atlanta (1-3) plays a consultation game against Sacramento on Friday at 6:00 p.m. (ET) to close out their summer league schedule.
