ATLANTA — No, that’s not me in that picture, but I did get an exclusive interview with Dennis Schroder on media day.
Soaring Down South: Can you speak about how Summer League helped you prepare for the NBA?
Schroder: “It was a very good experience, it helped me a lot, because the speed and fast breaks, and everybody’s athletic and strong. I learned a lot about the NBA season.
Soaring Down South: Have you spoken with Jeff Teague about the point guard play, and have you learned anything from him from your time in Atlanta so far?
Schroder: ” I see him every time in practice, and I have to play against him. I think that helped me to prepare for the other point guards, and when he sees something he talks to me, and tries to get me better.”
Soaring Down South: This system is pick and roll heavy, do you feel like your game fits the pick and roll well?
Schroder: “Yeah, for sure. Pick and roll fits me. I played it in Germany all the time, and I had the ball in my hands in the pick and roll and tried to find the open man. It fits me very well.”
Schroder was very impressive for a 19 year old, and the team spoke highly of him. His English is surprisingly good, and he seems overall excited about playing this season. His defense was impressive in Summer League, but he needs to improve on jump shooting.
