Six players scored in double-figures for the still perfect Pelicans as they pounded the Hawks 105-73 Sunday afternoon in Biloxi, Mississippi.
New Orleans has not lost yet in preseason play and improves to 4-0, while Atlanta falls to 1-2.
Anthony Davis led the team with 23 points and nine rebounds. Ryan Anderson and Al-Farouq Aminu each shot 7-of-10 from the field, as Anderson dropped 20 points off the bench and Aminu added 14 as the starting small forward. Jrue Holiday (13), Anthony Morrow (11) and Austin Rivers (10) were also in double-figures.
New Orleans scored the first nine points of the game and led 34-18 at the end of the opening quarter. They shot 63.6 percent (14 of 22) from the floor in that first period, while Atlanta missed 11 of their first 18 shots. The game was over then and there. The Pelicans maintained a double-digit lead at halftime, widened the gap in the third, and later blew the game open in the fourth going up by as many 33 points with just under five minutes left to play. Jeff Withey’s jumper in the last seconds sealed the Pelicans’ 32-point victory.
Atlanta’s all-star center Al Horford stuffed the stat sheet and led all Hawks starters in minutes (27), points (21), rebounds (6), assists (3), steals (2) and blocks (1), while shooting a stellar 9-of-12 from the field. Paul Millsap was the only other player in double-figures with 13 points.
The Hawks are back in action Thursday night when they host the San Antonio Spurs.
