New Atlanta Hawks power forward Paul Millsap with miss the final two games of the preseason with a sore Achilles, reports Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Millsap aggravated his Achilles in the third quarter of Sunday’s matchup versus Memphis and did not return. He didn’t practice Monday and spent the latter portion icing his foot and receiving treatment.
“I think we are going to be conservative and cautious and give him the next couple days off,” coach Mike Budenholzer said. “Just let him rehab and rest and make sure he’s feeling really good going into the season.”
Millsap was coming off his best game of the preseason Sunday when he scored a team-high 19 points, to go along with eight rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals against the Grizzlies.
“I think he feels good and he is getting more comfortable and him being healthy is ultimately is the most important thing,” Budenholzer said.
According to Vivlamore, Millsap said his Achilles is still sore and will continue to receive treatments.
“It just came along,” said Millsap, who has been dealing with the lingering injury since before Sunday’s game. “It could be from different shoes or tweaked it maybe. Who knows? It’s nothing major.”
The Hawks host Indiana tonight, then wrap up preseason play tomorrow in Dallas.
With Millsap sidelined, Al Horford will slide down to power forward and veteran Elton Brand will start at center.
