The Atlanta Hawks have demoted Jared Cunningham and assigned the second-year shooting guard to the D-League with the Bakersfield Jam, President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Danny Ferry announced Monday via an official news release.

Cunningham has only appeared in one game for Atlanta this season, playing four minutes at Denver on November 7th.

Cunningham spent his rookie season last year with Dallas and also served a D-League stint for the Mavericks as he played in 15 games for the Texas Legends. He averaged 15.3 points, 3.0 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 34.5 minutes of action while posting a .335 field-goal percentage and a .721 free throw percentage.

The Hawks decided not to exercise their third-year option on Cunnigham last month, setting him up to become a free agent following this season.

Cunningham’s first game with Bakersfield will be Friday, November 22.
