The Hawks finished their second straight game with extra time as the winning side, and it can be said that Jeff Teague was the star of the show.
The Kyrie Irving-Jeff Teague matchup was fun to watch from the very beginning as both players put up very impressive numbers. Irving finished with 40 points and 9 assists while having 6 turnovers, including two that kept the Hawks in the game toward the end of the second overtime period. Teague was right there with Kyrie on the stat sheet as he finished with 34 points and 14 assists, while also giving the ball up 6 times.
Jeff was the center of the most important play of the game for Atlanta as he took a step-back jumper in the final seconds of the second overtime and the entire Cleveland crowd watched it bounce a few times before falling in, giving the Hawks the victory, 127-125. Jeff was on the floor for 49 minutes, the second longest game of his career, and the absence of Al Horford and DeMarre Carroll at the tail-end of the game led to the offense flowing through Teague more than usual. He rose to the challenge, however, scoring 12 of the Hawks’ 32 points in the extra periods. Jeff was one of 4 Hawks’ players to reach at least 20 points in the overtime victory.
The team returns home to face the Charlotte Bobcats tomorrow before heading back on the road. With Al Horford now out for significant time with a torn pectoral, Jeff is now tasked with continuing his All-Star like play into the new year and carrying the load along with Paul Millsap.
