James Nunnally averaged 10.3 points per game in his rookie season with Bakersfield, including a 33-point performance in the season finale.

Atlanta Hawks Officially Sign James Nunnally to 10-Day Contract

After speculation that the Atlanta Hawks were likely to sign D-League baller James Nunnally, the team made it official on Saturday by signing the small forward to a 10-day contract.

Atlanta made  the move to sign Nunnally after waiving Cartier Martin on Tuesday.

SDS senior writer Wesley Morton wrote about the rumor on Friday, and a day later the plan came to  fruition when the Hawks announced the signing of Nunnally via an official news release.

In case you missed it, Morton reached out to Dakota Schmidt of the D-League blog Ridiculous Upside for a quick scouting report on Nunnally:

@NujabWes Solid all-around offensive player who can score from anywhere around the court. Efficient from the perimeter (41%) and can

Nunnally, 23, is a big wing player who measures out at 6’7″ and 205 lbs. He spent this season playing for the Bakersfield Jam, the  Hawks’ D-League affiliate, and is averaging 18.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 33.6 minutes (.448 FG%, .415 3FG%, .853 FT%) through 19 games.

Nunnally was a four-year player at UC Santa Barbara and went undrafted in 2012. He played with the Jam last season as a rookie, averaging 10.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 19.7 minutes. The forward was with the Phoenix Suns in training camp in 2013, and saw action in three pre-season games, before returning to Bakersfield for the regular-season.

With the Hawks, Nunnally will wear #2, once the uniform number of Joe Johnson, or as new Brooklyn teammate Kevin Garnett calls him, “Joe Jesus.”

Atlanta’s roster is now back to the maximum of 15 players.

Nunnally will be on the Hawks’ bench when they visit the Memphis Grizzlies Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. (ET).
