Atlanta Hawks Won't Retain James Nunnally, Will Sign Cartier Martin to 10-Day Contract (Again)

Following the blowout road victory over the Philadelphia 76ers Friday night, it seems the Hawks said their goodbye to James Nunnally as his second 10-day contract expired Friday.

RealGM.com writer Shams Charania reported Saturday morning the Hawks decision to let Nunnally go:

Nunnally appeared in four games for the Hawks, averaging 4.5 points and 2 rebounds in 13.5 minutes per game.

The decision to let him go should not be much of a surprise as the trade deadline approaches; Atlanta is expected to be active participants and the extra roster spot will come in handy when the time comes. The Hawks would have been required to sign Nunnally for the remainder of the season if they wanted to keep him.

James did reference the end of his contract early Saturday morning via Twitter:

The Hawks didn’t keep that extra spot open for very long, however, as it appears the front office has chosen to bring back Cartier Martin for a 10-day contract. Shams Charania also reported this Saturday morning:

Cartier was recently with the Chicago Bulls, where he received two 10-day contracts, the last of which expired last Wednesday. Prior to that, he was with the Hawks and appeared in 25 games before his release in early January. He was averaging 6.6 points and 2.0 rebounds in 17.5 minutes per game with Atlanta. With Chicago, he appeared in six games where he averaged 2.5 points in 8 minutes a night.

If the move is made official Saturday, Martin’s contract will last through Feb. 11.
