The news surrounding the All-Star Weekend in New Orleans is just getting started and the reigning Rookie of the Year is becoming a common subject as we approach the festivities that kick off Friday.
Damian Lillard will be making All-Star Weekend history by participating in a record-high five events: The Rising Stars Challenge, Skills Challenge, Three-Point Contest, Slam Dunk Contest and the All Star Game.
His participation in all these events will certainly make him more of a household name among casual NBA fans if he isn’t already there, which would be quite the feat for a player that was once just a bit of an unknown name going into the 2012 draft where he went 6th overall out of Weber State.
Lillard will be representing Team (Grant) Hill in the Rising Stars Challenge alongside the likes of Bradley Beal, Andre Drummond and Harrison Barnes of the sophomore class as well as “The Greek Freak” also known as Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Then he’ll be teaming up with Utah’s Trey Burke in the Skills Challenge and will be representing the West in the Three Point Contest alongside Marco Belinelli, Kevin Love and Stephen Curry.
Damian will then be competiting in the Dunk Contest against John Wall, Paul George, Ben McLemore, Harrison Barnes and the reigning Dunk Champion Terrance Ross.
Lillard’s participation in All-Star Weekend will surely be an accomplishment to witness, and will also represent just another footnote added to what has been an impressive year for the Portland Trail Blazers, who will come out of the break looking to continue their push for an NBA title as they currently sit 3rd in the Western Conference Standings.
The All-Star main festivities will being Friday at 7 p.m. ET, with the Celebrity Game on ESPN, followed by the Rising Stars Challenge at 9 p.m. ET on TNT.
