Atlanta Hawks backup center Gustavo Ayon will still be out “several” more games with a right shoulder injury, reports Hawks beat writer Chris Vivlamore of the AJC.

Ayon got injured in Tuesday’s game in Indiana and missed the second half. He did not play the following game on Wednesday at home versus Washington. 15-year veteran Elton Brand, the team’s fourth-stringer, was the only healthy center available against the Wizards.

According to Vivlamore, “Ayon has seen team doctors, underwent an MRI exam and is on a track of rest and recovery.” He also quoted General Manger Danny Ferry as saying: “He (Ayon) will be out for at least a couple more games.”

Atlanta has a home game Saturday night against the Knicks following tonight’s road game in Detroit, then a back-to-back set at home on Tuesday and on the road in Boston on Wednesday.

Since there is no timetable for Ayon’s return, the Hawks will have to rely on Brand as the lone center until third-stringer Pero Antic comes back from a stress fracture injury. However, “Ferry indicated there are still several steps in the rehabilitation process he must clear,” Viv notes.
