The injuries keep mounting for the already decimated Atlanta Hawks as word came out that big man Pero Antic sprained his right ankle in Wednesday’s loss at Minnesota, reports Hawks beat writer Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
According to Viv, Antic’s injury occurred when he “stumbled over coach on bench” after he drained a 3-pointer with 2:29 left in the second quarter. He logged only 16 minutes of action.
There is no update on the severity of the sprain but it’s worth noting that Antic finished out the second quarter and started the third period, playing the first six and a half minutes before being substituted for veteran big man Elton Brand. Pero didn’t return to action, but that’s most likely because the Timberwolves were blowing out the Hawks, which meant it was mop up duty for all the backups.
Atlanta hosts the Trail Blazers on Thursday in the second night of a back-to-back set. If Antic is ruled out, Brand will start in his place.
Check back for updates.
