Paul Millsap Leaves Hawks-Pacers Game in Third Quarter with Apparent Hand Injury

The Hawks were blowing out the Pacers 55-23 at halftime in Indiana on Sunday, but it was Atlanta who was dealt a costly blow when All-Star power forward Paul Millsap left the game with an apparent hand injury early in the third quarter.

Millsap had the ball on offense and was backing down David West in the low post, when Pacers backup center Ian Mahinmi tried to double-team Millsap and inadvertently hit him.

At first, it looked like Millsap got hit in the face, but when he started walking to the Atlanta bench he was clearly holding his hand in pain.

The injury is reported as a right thumb contusion, according to Hawks beat writer Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“Paul Millsap’s right thumb being wrapped. Still waiting to see if he will return,” Vivlamore added.

Luckily, Millsap was able to return and checked back into the game with 3:57 left in the third quarter.

Check back after the game for an update on Millsap’s injury.
