By snapping Brooklyn’s 15-game home winning streak Friday night with an impressive 93-88 road victory, the Atlanta Hawks are one game away from clinching the eighth and final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference.
Atlanta needs just one more win, or a Knicks loss, to punch their ticket to the post-season for the seventh straight year — the longest active streak in the East.
Despite winning at Brooklyn on Friday, the Hawks couldn’t clinch because the Knicks won earlier that night in Toronto. However, now Atlanta’s magic number is reduced to one game, and they could get the job done with another win or a New York loss.
The Hawks could clinch tonight at home with a win over reigning two-time champion Miami Heat, or wait for the Knicks to play, and hopefully lose to the Chicago Bulls on Sunday at Madison Square Garden.
Either way, Atlanta WILL make the playoffs for a seventh straight year — it’s just a matter of when.
