With the 2014 NBA Draft occurring just around the corner on June 26th, the Atlanta Hawks have hosted a myriad of different college players for workouts, and things have started to ramp up. We are now a few days into June, and the list of players will continue to grow as the big day approaches.
In case you have missed the workouts so far, here is the list of players who have held workouts with the Hawks:
PG Jahii Carson, Arizona State; Per Jeff Goodman of ESPN
PG Kendall Williams, New Mexico; Per Goodman
PG Billy Baron, Canisius; Per Goodman
PG Langston Hall, Mercer; Per Liam Jones
G Nick Johnson, Arizona; Per Johnson himself
SF/PF Kyle Anderson, UCLA; Per Jeff Goodman of ESPN
SF T.J. Warren, North Carolina State; Per Goodman
SF Glenn Robinson III, Michigan; Per MLive.com
SF Johnny O’Bryant, LSU; Per Goodman
PF Jarnell Stokes, Tennessee; Per Adam Zagoria of SNY.Tv
PF DeAndre Daniels, UCONN; Per Goodman
It’s clear that the Hawks are looking to add some depth at the forward positions. With the small forwards, they can all score at a decent rate, and it was apparent that the lack of depth at that position hurt them this past season. Jarnell Stokes would be a nice rebounder off the bench for the Hawks– and if he’s available at the 43rd pick– that could be a steal for Danny Ferry.
It is also interesting to see them work out point guards, as Shelvin Mack played well in a reserve role this season, and they used a first round pick on Dennis Schröder last year. That could mean the Hawks could be looking to move Schröder, to get an extra pick or move up in this year’s draft. Scott Howard-Cooper of NBA.com reports that the Sacramento Kings could trade the number eight pick for Schröder, but it is all speculation at this point.
Adam Zagoria reports that the Hawks want to bring UCLA’s Kyle Anderson back for another workout, and he could be the favorite to be selected with the 15th pick by Atlanta in the first round. He has the size and ball-handling ability to play both forward positions, and could provide nice depth on the wing for the Hawks.
Stay tuned for more draft news, as it is now just 23 days away.
