After Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that the Atlanta Hawks and free agent swingman Kent Bazemore had agreed on a two-year, $6 million deal, the internet went nuts. Woj quickly deleted the tweet, but it showed that the Hawks were set to meet with Bazemore — especially after he tweeted that he was headed for Atlanta.
Bazemore met with the Hawks on Monday, and according to the AJC, no deal is imminent:
Free agent swingman Kent Bazemore met with the Hawks in Atlanta on Monday. However, no deal is imminent.
Bazemore has reportedly drawn interest in several other teams and has additional visits scheduled.
Bazemore tweeted, “The suspense … !!” on Monday afternoon. He later tweeted that he would be flying “to the Bay.”
Multiple reports have now stated that he will go on a free agent tour, meeting with the Spurs, Celtics, and Hornets. It is also possible that he could make a return to the Lakers, as they met early in the free agency period, and there is mutual interest.
Bazemore is a 6’5 guard/forward with a nearly 7′ wingspan who can play point guard, shooting guard, or small forward. He averaged 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists on 37 percent shooting from beyond the arc in 23 games for the Lakers. His ball handling ability and defensive potential would fit the Hawks and their system to perfection.
