The Atlanta Hawks opened their 2014 Summer League schedule against the Washington Wizards on Saturday, but it was not the start the Hawks hoped for as they lost 90-74.
Second-year Wizards players Glen Rice Jr. and Otto Porter combined for 47 points in the game. Porter had 25 points on 11-of-16 shooting, while Rice Jr. made 14-of-16 foul shots and finished with 22 points.
Atlanta trailed 23-17 after the first quarter, but did a great job defensively in the second and limited Washington to just 12 points, while the Hawks dropped 24 in the period to take a 41-35 lead into halftime.
However, the second half was all Wizards as they outscored the Hawks 55-33 and won the game easily by double-digits.
First-round draft pick Adreian Payne led Atlanta with 12 points and seven rebounds in his debut, while Mike Muscala added 11 points and Lamar Patterson chipped in with 10.
