After two straight upset wins in the 2014 Las Vegas Summer League tournament, the 22nd-seeded Atlanta Hawks have reached the Quarterfinals, where they will play the 14th-seeded Houston Rockets on Saturday at 3pm PT / 6pm ET.
The Hawks were 0-3 after the round-robin stage, before the single-loss tournament began. They earned the 22nd seed (out of 24 teams) and drew the defending NBA Summer League champions Golden State Warriors in the first round.
In that thrilling game between Atlanta and Golden State, the Hawks pulled out a 68-65 upset victory behind Dennis Schroder’s game-high 17-point performance, sending the Warriors to the consolation bracket.
Following the win over Golden State, Atlanta advanced to the second round where they would play the Portland Trail Blazers, who had recently destroyed the Hawks in the third-and-final game of the round-robin stage by a 91-76 margin.
However, the second meeting between the Hawks and Blazers was a complete 180-degree turn, as Atlanta went on to obliterate Portland 88-65.
Now, Atlanta is in the Quarterfinals — a place no one thought they would reach — where they will go up against an impressive Houston Rockets squad, who are coming off an upset victory over the #3 seed Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Hawks-Rockets game will be played at the Thomas & Mack Center on Saturday at 3pm PT / 6pm ET.
The winner will advance to the Semifinals and will play the winner of the Bulls vs. Kings game on Sunday.
