Atlanta Hawks Summer League: Game 6 Preview vs. Rockets

Wow! Wow!! Wow!!!

The Hawks earned their second straight upset victory and their magic run continues!

Atlanta has advanced to the Summer League quarterfinals after avenging a blowout victory against Portland by turning the tables and smacking the Trail Blazers to earn a shot to play the Houston Rockets with a ticket to the semifinals on the line.

The #22nd-seeded Hawks upset the #11th-seeded Golden State Warriors and #6th-seeded Trail Blazers in consecutive games to reach the quarterfinals. They were 0-3 in the round-robin stage before their hot streak started in the single-loss elimination stage.

It will be interesting to see if John Jenkins plays for the Hawks tonight.

The third-year shooting guard has been limited to not playing on back-to-back days, but hasn’t played since the last game of the round-robin stage four days ago. We knew he would sit out against the Warriors, because that was the second night of a back-to-back, but Jenkins should have been available the next game on Thursday for the second meeting against the Blazers, although he didn’t play any minutes.

Maybe it’s superstition — the Hawks haven’t loss in the tournament stage when Jenkins sits out. Maybe him sitting out a third straight game would equate to a third straight win? It only comes true if you really believe…
