The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has swept the nation and made its way over to the NBA and the Atlanta Hawks.
The challenge, in which a person dumps a bucket of ice water over their head, is to spread awareness of the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, and encourage donations to research.
ALS is a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement.
Hawks 2014 first-round pick Adreian Payne was the first player on the team to record and post his completion of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
After Payne completed the deed, he nominated teammate Dennis Schroder to step up and take the challenge as well.
