It’s hard to prioritize positions in terms of importance, but the point is up there and it would be very difficult to build a contender without a good one-guard at the helm.

It’s a position that has seen a great deal of change and a similar amount of variety. Today’s class is full of uber-athletic guards capable of dunking comfortably, something which was almost unheard of some time ago. And no two point guards are the same. They all have different combinations of the necessary skills for the position: scoring, passing, and defense.

Unless a team has a LeBron James, it is the responsibility of the point guard to get the offense to run its plays and get ticking efficiently and consistently; that is why they are so important.
