Atlanta Hawks Headlines is back to take a look at some potential “projects” the Hawks could select in the NBA Draft, dive into more season reviews, and more.

Welcome back to the warm embrace of Atlanta Hawks Headlines. It’s the warm hug every Hawks fan needs first thing in the morning. As you well know, Hawks Headlines is your hot-spot for the latest Hawks news, opinion, and analysis.

The NBA Playoffs continue to roll on, but the Hawks are sitting at home. After seeing the Hawks get bounced by the Washington Wizards, Atlanta fans may be hesitant to turn on the television and watch teams they hate battle it out to see who will eventually become Golden State’s punching bag for four to seven games.

Talk around the Hawks continues to focus on the upcoming NBA Draft and their general manager search. No more concrete news has broken on those two fronts, but that doesn’t mean we can’t speculate on prospects and front office candidates!

Atlanta Hawks: Should They Draft a Project or More Pro-Ready Player?

Collin Huguley asks whether or not the Hawks should take a “project” or a player that is ready to contribute right away in June’s NBA Draft. Both types of options exist at the moment, it just depends on which direction the Hawks want to go in. Justin Patton, Harry Giles, and Terrance Ferguson are a few examples of high risk, high reward players the Hawks could choose to select.

Future of Atlanta Hawks is unknown without GM in place

Jerell Rushin writes on the uncertainty surrounding Atlanta’s front office. The Hawks are currently searching for their new GM and there still isn’t front-runner, at least not one that has been revealed publicly. Atlanta has a decision to make regarding Paul Millsap‘s future, as well as Tim Hardaway Jr.’s future. The team could look very different next season.

Also at Peachtree Hoops, Brad Rowland comments on the Hawks being linked to Justin Patton in some early mock drafts. Patton is a 7-foot center out of Creighton. Patton is an athletic big man that runs the floor well and has an extremely high ceiling. This pick would be a “project”, but one with high upside.

Dumars on Hawks’ GM opening: ‘I’m one of the names … we’ll see what happens’

JuliaKate E. Culpepper of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports on Joe Dumars‘ candidacy for the GM vacancy in Atlanta. Dumars is reportedly a candidate along with David Griffin and Troy Weaver.

The Atlanta Hawks’ plight and the flight of Dwight

At The Step Back, John Buhler analyzes Atlanta’s tricky situation with Dwight Howard. Howard was unhappy with his role at the end of the season, and it is unclear if that unhappiness will trickle into next season. The Hawks would probably consider trading Howard if there was any chance of them getting something of value in return.
